9-22-10 — The Wayne County Volleyball program is currently experiencing a
winning season in district play with four wins and one loss. They are
tied with Russell County for this first place standing.
"We are on track as far as district play," said Coach Sandra Baker.
"Hopefully someone will knock off Russell County and we can take care
of business and be in first place."
The only remaining district game left in the schedule will be
McCreary County which will be played away on September 21.
Last week, Wayne County faced Russell County beating them in all
three games, which included freshman, junior varsity and varsity levels.
"My players really stepped up and have led the team," said Baker.
"Whitney Spencer has had to play several positions because of the
team's dynamics, but adjusted well," Baker noted.
Baker praised senior Monica Muse, "She has come a long way in only
her second year to play regarding knowledge of the game and skills."
"Freshman Sydney Jackson has been extremely consistent," she added.
Baker also mentioned another freshman player. "Mackenzie Richardson
had to run setter for the freshman, junior varsity and varsity games. Her mental toughness is extraordinary. A lot of people would not be able to do that."
The girls participated in the Pulaski County Invitational on Friday, Sept. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 18.
The public will be able to see the girls play at home at 6 p.m. beginning with the junior varsity on Homecoming night which is Friday, September 24.
