Monticello — Jim Durham, the Lake Cumberland Detachment Leader for the United
States Coast Guard Auxiliary out of Lexington, announced today that the USCG
Auxiliary will be teaching a boating safety course ³Responsible Boating² and
will also hold a Vessel Examination Day on June 27, at the Jamestown Marina
Lodge in the Cumberland Room in Jamestown, Ky. The same course will be
taught on Sunday, June 28 at Cave Springs Marina, Nancy, Ky. Free boat
inspections will be conducted at both marinas.
Detachment Leader Durham said, ³On behalf of the U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary Detachment on Lake Cumberland, I am pleased to announce that the
Lake Cumberland Detachment will be providing a USCG Auxiliary Œcertified¹
instructor for this event and that we will have Auxiliary Vessel Examiners
available that day for courtesy boat inspections down at the fuel pier. We
look forward to meeting many new Lake Cumberland boaters as we promote safe
boating and Homeland Security awareness of Lake Cumberland. As one of
Kentucky¹s largest and most important impoundments, Lake Cumberland provides
water recreation to thousands of boaters annually. The more boaters we can
meet with and talk about boater safety and the Water Way Watch/Homeland
Security mission of the Auxiliary, and the more boats we can inspect (boat
inspections are voluntary but generally reduce insurance costs for boaters!)
then the safer the lake will be for everyone².
The ³Boating Safety‹Responsible Boating² course will be taught by a
certified USCG Auxiliary instructor. The address for Jamestown Marina is
3677 South Highway 92, Jamestown, Ky. 42629. The address for Cave Springs
Marina is 782 Island Ramp Road, Nancy, Ky. 42544. The course begins at 9
a.m. and runs to 5 p.m.
This is a very comprehensive boater safety course. There is a charge for
the course. However, because of limited space, the course is only available
to the first 35 people who sign up. So, if you are interested sign up early
by emailing Jim Durham at: captainjim@striperfun.com.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is actively seeking members for the new
Lake Cumberland Detachment.
