Cards end season with 22-11 record.

6-16-10 —     Wayne County's 2010 baseball season came to heartbreaking end  in

the first round of the 48th District Baseball Tournament.

The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning

against the host Southwestern Warriors.  However, it was not to be

for the Cardinals. The Warriors loaded the bases for junior Zach

Fowler and he delivered a 1- out walk-off grand slam, bringing to a

close one of the most successful seasons in the history of Cardinal

Baseball.

Southwestern got the scoring started, scoring a run in the bottom of

the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Wayne County responded quickly

in the top half of the 2nd inning.

A double by Dagan Shelton got things started for the Cardinals.

Roger Brumley scored Shelton with a double of his own.

Trey Blevins put Wayne County on top with an RBI single, and the

Cardinals maintained the 2-1 advantage through the 4th inning. Wayne

County added another run in the top half of the 5th inning.

Tyler Dishman's double to left field was the big blow.  Following

Dishman's double, courtesy runner Ryan Hopper was able to score the

third run of the night for Wayne County after a couple of passed

balls by Southwestern.

Behind solid team defense and quality pitching from Dishman, Wayne

County kept the warriors from scoring a single run in innings  2-6.

However, it was not to be for the Cardinals on this night. Thanks to

Fowler's blast the Warriors completed the come from behind victory in

dramatic fashion.

The loss ended one of the best seasons ever for Wayne County, and

also closed out the careers of 3 outstanding Cardinal seniors.

Travis Bell, Chris Swift and Tyler Dishman played their last game as

cardinals, and they will be tough to replace next season.  This trio

of seniors helped lead Wayne County to a school record 22 wins this

season.

The group has been a part of 66 wins and a District Championship

during their time as Cardinals.
