10-6-10 —     On Saturday, October 2, the Wayne County Cross Country Invitational  

Meet was held at Cave Lake Event Park in Monticello. A total of 21  

schools with over 400 runners participating was represented at this  

spectacular event. Hundreds of spectators gathered to see these  

schools compete in distance running, including elementary, middle and  

varsity teams.

    A total of 61 runners participated in the Girls Elementary Race,  

which is a 1.1 mile run. Pulaski took the 1st place team trophy in  

the Girls Elementary Division. Wayne County finished 4th overall as a  

team. Wayne County's own Alexis Dixon placed in the top ten with a  

4th place finish.

    A total of 67 runners participated in the Boys Elementary Race,  

which is also a 1.1 mile run. Southwestern took the 1st place team  

trophy in the Boys Elementary Division with Wayne County's team  

finishing 4th. Two top ten

places were secured by Wayne County runners Nathan West—4th and  

Zachary West—8th.

    The Girl's Middle School Race was a 3K run , 11 participants, with  

Peyton Ingram from Pulaski County finishing 1st individually. No  

teams were in this race. The Boy's Middle School race was also a 3K  

run, with 41 participants.

Team Wayne County took the 1st place trophy in this division. Four  

Wayne County runners placed in the top ten Andrew Dobbs, 1st; Clayton  

Cooper, 4th; Drew Bell, 5th; and Dillan Penney 6th.

     The JV Girls 5K race had 5 participants with Brandi Thomas from  

Pulaski County taking 1st place individually. No teams were in this  

race. The JV Boys 5K race had four participants with Logan Sutton  

from Somerset, taking 1st place individually. No teams were in this  

race.

    A total of 99 runners participated in the Girls Varsity 5K race.  

Bell County took the 1st place Team trophy in this division. Wayne  

County's Girls Team took 9th place. A total of 126 runners  

participated in the Boy's Varsity 5K race. North Laurel took the 1st  

place Team trophy in this division. Wayne County's Team finished 10th.

    Appreciation is expressed to Cave Lake Event Park owner Nick Cooley  

and all the staff for helping make this event such a huge success for  

Wayne County's Cross Country Team.

    Make plans to attend the Class A, AA, and AAA Cross Country Regional  

Championships which will be held at Cave Lake on November 6.
