10-13-10 — The Wayne County Middle School Cardinals traveled to border rival Clinton County, last Thursday night to face the home standing Bulldogs. The Cards entered with a 5-5 mark, while Clinton County owned a 3-4 record. The teams met a month earlier with Wayne County claiming a 38-14 home decision.
Wayne County used 32 plays to total 296 yards of offense and built a 26-0 halftime lead, en route to a 34-8 road win. Fullback Kadameon Branham rushed 6 times for 120 yards, plus scored on runs of 20, 14 and 27 yards, to pace the winners.
Logan Gardner added 119 total yards of offense, with 87 of that rushing on just 5 carries, plus scored on touchdowns runs of 34 and 32 yards, as Wayne County improved to 6-5 on the season.
"This was a good team effort. I thought everybody came in and played hard, which should give us some nice momentum heading into the final week of our season. We take off a week for fall break, but we come back with two big road games to end our season." said Wayne Middle coach Shannon Hutchinson.
Nose guard Jared Philpot led the defense with 5 stops, while Logan Gardner, Calvin Godsey, Nick Hicks, Rodney Rednour and Justin Pennycuff totaled 3 tackles each.
After a week off the Cards travel to McCreary on Tuesday, October, 19 and wrap-up the season on Saturday morning October 23 at Lincoln County.
