The building downtown that formerly housed the Wayne County Library
will go on the market soon. Library board members met on Wednesday,
July 19 and agreed to list the property on the real estate market.
The building has previously been appraised and that will be used to
determine an asking price, according to the conversation among board
members at last week's meeting.
The appraisal of the property had a high range of about $420,000.
The board then discussed the options for listing the property. The
recommendation was made to use a franchise real estate firm, and the
board agreed to contact the 21st Century company in Somerset.
Librarian Anne Garner will check to see if there is a commercial
agent available to handle the listing.
Garner noted that a grand opening celebration has been set for the
new library. It will be held August 17 from 4 until 6 p.m.
A ribbon cutting will be held on that day at 4:15 p.m. at the new
facility.
Several local and state officials have been invited to attend the
event. Everyone is welcome to stop by and see the brand new library.
Board members lowered the tax rates for 2017 for real and personal
property from 9.3 cents per hundred dollars assessed value to 9.2 cents.
The 2018 tax rate for motor vehicle and watercraft will remain the
same at 3.93 cents per hundred dollars of assessed value.
Also during the meeting, the board:
• Heard an update regarding the construction work at the library.
Garner said that there are several items that need to be corrected in
regard to landscaping around the building, but many of those will
have to wait until fall to be completed.
Some small tasks are left to complete inside the library, but she
expects they will be completed soon.
The board also:
• Reviewed the circulation report for the fiscal year 2016-2017.
• Declared a shelf, a cart and a desk as surplus property to donate
to Headstart.
• Granted Olivia Anderson permission to submit an application for
the Vietnam War programming kit. If the kit is awarded to the
library, Anderson will serve as the project director.
