Although candidates cannot officially file for the 2018 local
election until November, a local man has already filed his letter of
intent with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance to run for
Wayne County Clerk.
James B. Sloan, 29, a republican, filed his letter of intent to seek
that office last week. Sloan is currently serving as a Soil and Water
Conservation District Supervisor. He was elected to that  position in
November 2016, which marked his first run for political office.
"It is after much prayer, thought and consideration that I have
decided to run for the position of County Clerk," Sloan stated. "I am
excited to begin this journey into public service and look forward to
the chance to serve my community. I know with campaign season comes
many promises, and I have some to share with you. I promise to greet
you with a smile, to be honest in all things at all times and to work
hard for you, the citizens of Wayne County."
He is the son of Jerry Sloan, who served multiple terms on the
fiscal court as District One Magistrate.
A letter of intent by a candidate can be filed in the year
proceeding the election. This allows the candidate to begin fund-
raising for a campagin.
Candidates who wish to seek office in next year's local election can
begin filing in the county clerk's office on November 8, 2017. The
final day to file as a candidate for local offices will be January

30, 2018 at 4 p.m.
