10-3-12 — Oct. 17, 1933‹Sept. 22, 2012
Hoyt Darin Abbott , the son of the late Leo and Eva Criswell Abbott, was born in the Burfield community of Wayne County on October 17, 1933. He departed this life on September 22, 2012, reaching the age, of 78 years, 11 months and five days.
At an early age he professed faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Steunbenville Baptist Church. At the time of his passing he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He talked about his Lord and taught his family to place their trust in Him at all times.
At age 16, he left home and found work in Cincinnati, Ohio, and later in Muncie, Ind.
After returning to Wayne County on September 29, 1952, he married his childhood sweetheart, Shirley Baker. To this union two children survive‹Patty Abbott and Connie Parnell (husband Kenneth), all of Monticello, Ky. He is also survived by four grandchildren‹Kendall Parnell (wife Tanya), Seth Parmley, Wendy Denney (husband Seth) and Leah Bertram (husband Shane), all of Monticello.
He is also survived by six great-granddaughters‹Taylor and Lacy Parnell, Hailey and Kenzie Bertram and Lylah and Madelyn Denney; one brother‹Bill Abbott (wife Jackie), of Kingman, Ariz. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by two brothers‹Lynn and Max Abbott; and one sister‹Mary Freeda Abbott.
He worked at many different jobs throughout his life. He farmed, worked at sawmills, worked in oil fields, worked in factories, served as Monticello Police Chief and most recently as the assistant animal control officer for Wayne County. He had an excellent work ethic and worked as long as his health permitted.
He was also ordained as a Baptist minister in June 1978, and pastored churches in Wayne County. He served as pastor of Green Hill Baptist Church for almost 11 years. He had a true pastor's heart and was always concerned or worried about people.
Although we will miss him, we know that he is in a far better place. As a pastor, he often quoted Hebrews 4:9, which says, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God." We trust that he has now entered into that rest.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Kendall Parnell, Bro. Seth Denney and Bro.
Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
