Monticello — Commonwealth's Attorney Matthew Leveridge, who represents the 57th Judicial Circuit that includes Wayne County, was arrested on March 7 in neighboring Pulaski County for driving under the influence.

According to court documents, Leveridge, 36, was arrested by Somerset Police Officer Larry Patterson.

He was also charged with possession of an open alcoholic beverage.

Leveridge appeared before Judge Jeffrey Lawless in Pulaski District Court on Monday, March 9 for arraignment.

He posted a $2,000 cash bond and was released.

Leveridge, the state's youngest Commonwealth's Attorney, has been Com-monwealth's Attorney for the 57th Judicial Circuit since 2007.

He served as Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney in the 57th Circuit from 2003-2005.

In a statement released to The Outlook, Leveridge said, "I deeply regret this incident occurred. I made a mistake for which I am truly sorry. This has been a very humbling experience. I offer no excuses and I have accepted the consequences of my actions and have accepted the same punishment other people receive. I recognize my personal actions may have affected the trust placed in me. I want to assure the people I serve that an incident such as this will never again take place. I am honored to serve as your Commonwealth's Attorney and I will work to move forward and put this behind me."
