The first day of school is about a month away, but it's time to start thinking about getting ready for that first class.
The Back To School Bash is set for Friday, July 26 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the ASPIRE Center.
All children living in Wayne County are invited to this event.
Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Everything is free of charge, including school supplies, swimming, food, inflatable games, clothing, shoes and drug-free literature. The grand prize for the event is a laptop computer.
Children who attend are encouraged to bring a drug-free drawing, collage or artwork to the back. The drawing should be the size of regular paper. All children who bring artwork will receive a free gift.
Volunteers are needed to help with the Back to School Bash.
Volunteers are needed that week to help put school supplies and drug- free literature together. There is also a need for volunteers to help put out clothing, make posters, set up tents, prepare food and make water stations on the day of the event.
On Friday evening, volunteers are needed to help with food, oversee inflatables, give out school supplies, register kids and more.
Anyone who has gently used children's clothes or shoes can bring them to the ASPIRE Center beginning July 23. Organizers for the event are also seeking hair dressers or barbers willing to give free haircut coupons.
For more information, to make a donation or to volunteer, call (606) 278-4925.
The event is sponsored by Defensive Action Against Drugs, Operation UNITE, WXYR Star Radio, the ASPIRE Center, and the community.
