April is PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month Wayne County Outlook
Monticello — Wayne County will participate in PRIDE Cleanup Month in April, according
to an announcement made recently by Judge-Executive Greg Rankin and Solid
Waste Coordinator Tim Bell. PRIDE, which stands for Personal Responsibility
In a Desirable Environment, has the 2009 slogan of "I Want You to Leap Into
Pride."
The month offers individuals or groups of volunteers a chance to make a
difference in their local communities and help improve the scenic beauty
with a month of cleanup activities.
"Wayne County has Lake Cumberland and so much more to be proud of and
the PRIDE initiative helps with a month to do some spring cleaning across
the county," said Rankin. "I truly believe through education and all the
other litter cleanup programs we offer, plus our recycling efforts that
Wayne County is making a difference. People that visit, work and live here
comment on the beauty of our county, so April is a chance to go out and help
in the cause."
The Solid Waste Coordinator's Office, located on the first floor of the
Wayne County Courthouse, has all the tools for volunteers who are ready to
help. The office will provide gloves, bags, and safety vests, plus help
individuals with any questions they may have. PRIDE also has t-shirts for
participants, while they last.
"April is PRIDE month and we need volunteers and groups of any size that
are willing to help to give my office a call or stop by. We have several
different opportunities with the lake cleanup being one of our biggest
events," said Bell. "This is a great way to help the county and show concern
for our environment."
The Wayne County Fiscal Court offers several free services throughout
the year like recycling, roadside litter abatement, dumpsite cleanups, white
goods and other appliance pickup.
