Police seek I.D. of man who perpetrated scams at Wal-Mart

Melodie Phelps, News Editor
Wayne County Outlook

Monticello — The Monticello Police Department is seeking the public's help in the

identification of a man who has scammed at least two local residents in

recent weeks. They have provided photos, as well as video of the man

entering the local Wal-Mart store, where he perpetrated the scams.

According to Monticello Police Chief Ralph Miniard, the man is wanted

for questioning in connection with two incidents in which victims were

defrauded of $300 each.

The scam involved an offer to sell a television that the suspect said he

bought at Wal-Mart. He told each of the victims of the scam that the

television could be picked up at Wal-Mart.

While the victims waited to pick up the television, Miniard said the

suspect fled the area with the cash.

Police believe this same scam has been perpetrated in other stores in

nearby communities as well.

Anyone who can help identify the man is asked to contact Miniard or

officers Allen Braden or Derek Lester at the Monticello Police Department at

(606) 348-9313.
