Former Outlook staff member, radio personality Jerry Gibson dies Wayne County Outlook
Monticello — Jerry Gibson, a former Outlook staff member and local radio
personality, died on Wednes-day, March 25 at his home in Russell County. He
was 57.
Gibson was an on-air radio personality for WFLW and WKYM for many years.
He helped found The Reporter, a weekly newspaper that competed with The
Outlook in the 1970s.
Gibson later worked for The Outlook and also helped found Pulaski Week.
In recent years, Gibson, along with his friend David Davenport, founded
the lakecumberland.com website, which provided information about the lake.
He was also the man behind the keyboard at wildcatsradio. com.
Gibson's death was noted on the Kentucky Press Association's website
late last week. Gibson was well-known by publishers and editors across the
state, since he had helped bring Kentucky newspapers into the age of
technology. The KPA article notes that at one time Gibson was assisting
about half the state's newspapers with installing and maintaining computer
systems.
"Gibson remained the go-to-guy at the Times-Journal and Russell County
News for computer and internet related issues right up to the day of his
death," noted the KPA article.
Gibson was apparently found in his home, after a friend was unable to
reach him and became concerned.
Gibson is survived by his mother, Edith Gibson, and his brother, Ralph
Gibson.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 28 at the Marvin S. Hicks
Funeral Home. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
