8-25-10 — The names on the ballot for non-partisan races this fall are set, as several candidates beat last Tuesday afternoon's deadline and filed their official paperwork.
A total of 10 candidates have filed for the six seats on Monticello City Council. They include incumbents Joe Gibson, Paul Bates, Philip Duncan and Alvin Sexton, as well as newcomers Dallas Hoskins, Allan Hopper, Jonathan Morris, Charles Peters, Martin Breeding and Donald Hancock.
There are only two candidates vying for the position of Monticello Mayor. Incumbent Mayor Kenneth Catron will be challenged by current Councilman Jeffrey Edwards.
Only one of the five local school board seats on the ballot this fall will be opposed. That is in the Wayne County Board of Education's Division Three where incumbent Paul Dunnington will be challenged by Alan R. Turner.
In Division Four, Patty Roberts is unopposed in her re-election bid.
Three seats are up for election on the Monticello Board of Education and three candidates have filed for those positions. They include incumbent Sheila Stephenson and newcomers Nancy Duncan and Bill Denney.
