8-25-10 —     The Parnell Fire Depart-ment will officially kick off its fundraising effort on Saturday, September 4, with a barbecue and singing at Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park.

    It's a great opportunity to enjoy some good food, great entertainment and help the organizers of the rural fire station raise money for a building.

    For the past several years, members of that community have been working toward making the fire station a reality and this event is another step along the way.

    The event is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Hot dogs and hamburgers and the fixings will be available to purchase. Entertainment will include Don Parmley and Kentucky Five, as well as Sage Knoll.

    The Monticello Fire Department is expected to be on hand to do fire safety demonstrations for the public. Door prizes will be given away throughout the evening. There is no charge to attend the event, but donations will be accepted.

    Mike Crain, who has headed up the organization of the rural fire department, expressed his appreciation to the park for their help in getting this organized, as well as the Monticello Fire Department.
