6-2-10 — Voter turnout for last Tuesday's primary election in Wayne County was a
little better than expected.
Wayne County Clerk Josephine Gregory noted that about 33 percent of
voters countywide participated in the primary election, which helped select
party nominees for a number of local races.
Gregory noted that things went well on primary election day, with few
problems reported from the precincts.
The biggest issue throughout the day involved new 911 addresses, and the
clerk's office received a number of calls regarding address changes.
Gregory also stated that they received some complaints regarding exit
polling that was being conducted at the Beech Valley precinct. Some voters
stated that they were approached by pollers before they went in to vote.
Gregory said that issue was dealt with.
There were also some rumors that Gregory and her office have dealt with
since primary night, regarding Monticello #3 precinct.
Gregory said several people had approached her regarding rumors that one
of the machine tapes from that precinct had been left at that location.
Gregory stated that did not occur. She said precinct workers had no
problem with any of the machines last Tuesday.
She also noted that all the tabulator results matched the electronic
results for all candidates in all races.
As of Monday, no candidates in local races had requested a recanvass of
last week's primary results.
The deadline for that request was Tuesday, May 25, after this edition
had already gone to press.
Any voters who had addressing issues that were not resolved during the
primary election process may contact Gregory's office at (606) 348-6661.
Overall results from last week's local races was included in the May 19
edition of The Outlook, but complete precinct-by-precinct totals are
available in this edition.
See the recapitulation sheets which are published on pages 8-A, 9-A,
10-A and 11-A.
