7-21-10 —    Monticello Independent will start the 2010-2011 school year off with two new principals, and both individuals are already familiar faces at the school. Mary McLean will serve as the elementary principal and Gary Abbott will be the middle/high school principal for the upcoming school year.

These were just two of the new hires and revised positions that were part of the personnel report that was presented to members of the Monticello Independent Board of Education during their regular meeting Monday evening.

Johnny Chaplin, former principal of Monticello School, is now serving as the supervisor and federal program coordinator, according to the personnel report.

In other action, the board appointed Jason Hancock as treasurer for the 2010-2011 school year, and set the bond and salary for that position. They also appointed him as board secretary and set the salary for that as well. Hancock is replacing Glenette Hurd, who will be retiring later this month.

    In other news, the board:

    • approved collecting indirect cost from lunch fund and federal programs for the 2010-2011 school year.

    • approved using capital outlay funds functionally through the general fund.

    • approved special education contract services for the 2010-2011 school year.

    • set the substitute salary schedule for the upcoming school year as the same for the past school year.

    • approved Title IX assurances for the 2010-2011 school year.

    • heard a personnel report.

    • heard a report from Superintendent Donnie Robison, who noted that the school may be closer to having a new athletic field. He stated that the school will more than likely soon have enough fill dirt for a hole on the campus. Once the hole is filled it will be available to use for athletic events. School officials should know more details about this in a couple of weeks.
