Monticello — Wayne County children are dressing warm for winter this season after
receiving coats at school through the "Coats for Kids" campaign generously
coordinated by WMKZ and WXYR Radio Stations.
The campaign was extremely successful with 1,251 coats collected by
classrooms at local schools during the month of November.
Autumn Bertram's fifth grade homeroom class at Turner Intermediate
collected the most coats in the Wayne County School District. They received
a $100 check for winning the contest and a pizza party on December 11.
WXYR Radio Owner Charmaine Catron said they collected enough coats to
fill 36 garbage bags that they sorted according to size. The coat sizes
range from XS to XXXL.
Some of the coats have already been distributed to students; however, on
December 12, the family resource coordinators will hold a family coat
giveaway at the old Wayne County School Middle School back annex building
from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
The public is encouraged to stop by and pick up a coat.
