A local man was arrested early January 1 following a stabbing 

incident that occurred at a New Year's celebration on North Main Street.

    According to Monticello Police Detective Derek Lester, Aaron 

Anderson, 36, was charged with first degree assault and second degree assault following the incident. He was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

    Police were called to the gathering at approximately 2:12 a.m. 

January 1, where two females reportedly sustained injuries. Lester 

said one female was stabbed in the rib cage area. She was flown to 

the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment and later 

released.

    Another female sustained a slight cut to her hand.

    Anderson was arraigned in Wayne District Court on Monday, January 5.  The public defender's office was appointed to represent Anderson and entered a not guilty plea during the hearing.

    A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for Monday, January 12 in Wayne District Court.

    Bond for Anderson is set at $15,000 cash only.

    Lester said the investigation is continuing. He asked that anyone
