MARY HICKS MARTIN
Feb. 10, 1933-Jan. 4, 2010
Mary Hicks Martin took her final flight home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 4, 2010, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters at Golden Years Nursing Home.
She was born on February 10, 1933, the oldest daughter and one of eight children born to Tommie and Perna (Bridgeman) Dishman. She was a dear sister to Emily Crabtree, Christine Goff, Alta McGinnis, Thomas Dishman and Phillip Dishman. She was preceded in death by brothers James and Mac.
On April 21, 1953 she married Luther P. Hicks.
To this union four children were born-Donald Ray, Daniel Hayden, Debra Ann, and Darrell Wayne; grandchildren-Tana Tedrick, Chris Hicks, Hayden Hicks, Jamie Allen, Joshua Tucker, Brooke Turner, and Nathan Stephenson; great-grandchildren include Greyson and Olivia Hicks, Lacie Tedrick, Bryce Allen, and Ryder Hicks.
Luther and Mary started and raised their family as they raised thoroughbred race horses and had many rental properties in Ohio and Kentucky. In 1977 they realized their dream to provide care and quality of life to the elderly in Monticello, Ky. On December 7, 1977 they opened Hicks¹ Golden Years Nursing Home. Luther worked alongside Mary until his death, on the way to work on October 11, 1984.
Mary remarried in 1986 to Freeman Martin and he preceded her in death in March 2003.
Mary accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of 14. She was a prayer warrior, loved to read her Bible and tried to love others as Christ commands us to do. She raised her children and saw all her children come to accept Jesus as their Savior. She love the Lord, was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and will be missed by her dear brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She will also be missed by all the employees of Golden Years over the many years whom she loved and appreciated so much.
Mary touched so many lives over the years and will be sadly missed by all who knew her but celebrate her Going Home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Steubenville Baptist Church with Phillip Drake and Buddy Duke officiating.
Burial followed in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
