THOMAS ISAAC POWELL

May 19, 1930-Jan. 10, 2010

Thomas Isaac, better known as "Ike" Powell, age 79, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010.

He was born May 19, 1930, the son of the late George and Nanny-Ethyl Powell.

He was united in marriage to Lois Davis Powell on March 22, 1950 , who survives.

He is also survived by three sons-Dale, George and Tommy Powell, all of Monticello, Ky.; and one daughter-Cathy Huff of Oneida, Tenn.; two sisters-Ora Thompson of Springville, Ind. and Cora Roberts of Stearns, Ky.;

14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son-Ronnie; and two brothers-Hubert Powell of Monticello, Ky. and Hobert Powell of Springville, Ind.

He had accepted Christ and was an active participant at Big Springs Baptist Church.

He was a corporal in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

He was an avid fan of Wayne County football and was an assistant coach and trainer for the team for over 30 years. He was affectionately know as "Doc" on the football field.

Funeral visitation will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with services held Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church. Burial followed at the Ike Powell Cemetery.
